On a still and hot motionless day

The sky and roads that stretch ahead are reflected back, 

so bright that it burns the retina.

It burns a hole in the lining that is

so deep it reflects back memories

Memories that return to you

each time you close your eyes.

Reflected back into the minds eye

in opposites of colour

Almost tangible in drips and swirls of pigment 

Cobalt and lapis make their way deeper into the indigo of the night

Perception is skewed again

But this time with the absence of light memories become murky

Unfathomable With every passing moment

Buried  deeper and deeper until they almost disappear.

Recently Tracy has been battling multiple cancers. Her practice explores the psychological and physical aspects of existence. The ephemerality of the flesh and an attempt to come to terms with the fragility of existence. The bushfires are a metaphor. Burnt out forests/lungs struggle to survive/breathe. When the leaves have fallen and the breath is shallow, ephemeral, time becomes fugitive.

Her work is a complex personal response to dealing with cancer. Breathing is hard, every dot represents air, every particle of the universe.

Tracy's on site work was very physical in the manipulation required for the preparation of the installation, a reflection of her hands on organic approach to her art.  As the site developed in shape and feeling it was an ongoing source of inspiration for the process of poem making for her collaborator Mena as her time on site was a more reflective, solitary meeting with the space that generated the images that feed her work.​

Water popularly represents life. It can be associated with birth, fertility, and refreshment. On a physical plain water is a contentious topic; our water ecosystems are at flash point, changing water courses, salination, over use of irrigation, we are drying out, In Islam, life and knowledge originated from water, a divine gift that symbolises profound wisdom, the drink that quenches the soul’s thirst.  In a Christian context, water has many correlations. Christ walked on water, and transmuted it into wine, these acts can be seen as a transcendence of the earthly condition. Lately it seems that water and faith are slipping through our fingers, being replaced hatred and mistrust.

Ceramic and slumped glass

9 small ceramic bowls embedded with hands and slumped glass. The bowls were made in clay slumped over a mold taken from several people's hands and then wheel thrown. The surface is treated with copper oxide and in the centre is slumped recycled glass. There will be quotes from different religious texts around the rims.
